Hello my Nerdlings. We're gonna have a QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR flashback week. And we will have a new strip on top with a really older strip on the bottom... all week, each day. Monday thru Friday. They are Jasper and Corky Quick and they are two brothers that work for their Dad in the Family appliance repair business. Just because my brother and myself worked for our Dad in the family appliance repair business doesn't mean this strip is based or inspired by us... it doesn't me it isn't either ... well, you can figure it out.
The very first GOING BATTTY comic featuring Merlin the bat and Doc the Mad Scientist. Ironically I created this comic on Halloween in 1995.... it was a Tuesday I believe. I was trying to design a bat puppet for a mad scientist costume ( for the next year not that day ) that could sit on a fake arm with your real arm sticking thru the lab coat to work the bat puppet. After drawing it on some cardboard I realized this would be a cool comic strip character. Later that day I came up with the rest of the cast.... except for Buttercup the lab assistant ... he came later.
This is the last GOING BATTY comic strip to ever appear.... it won't be the last ever, just the last one at the moment. 24 years in between the two. I've given it a more of a Steampunk look also.
CAPN' GEEZER is the fourth strip title I've ever done. It's about a time traveler and his companions. For the past strips I chose two that go together and were from the first seven or so strips.
Now here's a strip that has never appeared in print anywhere before. Very similar Ideas that are decades apart.
DAWN OF TIME is a comic strip about a redneck caveman named Bubba and his ape friend Milo. This was the third comic strip title that I ever started. it was in the early 90's , so less than 30 years ago but more than 25. I just kept having ideas for caveman strips and decided to write and draw them just to purge them out of my system till they were gone... but they never left and they're still here. The first strip is the 14th strip that I drew of this title.
I was going to put one of the last strips of DAT up here but I realized that I had a strip that had never been published before. I realized by the way I hadn't put the top and bottom together to make the one strip. So enjoy a DAWN OF TIME blast from the present.
QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR ... the second comic strip title I started. It's about two idiot brothers working for their Dad in the family appliance repair business. This is the 7th strip I did of them and the one below it if just a few from the last ones I've done so far.
You can see the evolution in the strip with them this close. Also, even though this may represent the last 15 or 16 years of me actually publishing these strips... they are actually older. I started Drawing QAR in the early 90's which makes it's closer to 30 years that I've been doing them. I was just stockpiling the comics till I could figure out what to do with them. When I started my self publish monthly comics paper, I ran it for four years. During that time I printed six comics each month of QAR and never ran out of the strips I had drawn before I started the paper.
Special cross over guest today, Herman the Psychotic Chicken from the MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS comic strip.
124 pages collected of this strip for $8 HERE in print
or HERE as a PDF for $3
This collects around 15 years of the comic strip all in one book. The MOSTLY HUMOROUS series.
What a coincidence that Herman was the first throwback comic right before this one....mmmmm...
I'm starting a Comics Throwback. Each week we will take a look as characters from one of my original six humor comic strips. Today it's the MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS comic title. The first one is from the early days and the second one is from fairly recent so you can see how much they've changed over the years.
This one features Herman the Psychotic Chicken, one of the Swamp Dragons ( Bubba... the other one is Bill ) and Knothead the Clown. I actually have a 1930 GE Refrigerator like the one in the strip... and it still works.
One very noticeable difference over the years is the darker outline I use on the main characters in the strip to make them stand out even more. MSD is the first comic I ever did. Herman my first character I ever fully created. April of 1984. This chicken is 35 years old. For the first four years I wasn't even sure what to do with him. I paired him with an ape... it didn't work for me. Then Knothead came to me and later on the Swamp Dragons and it all fell together. Years later the ape was used in another strip paired with a caveman.
